Wedding Series Pt.1: FAQ with a Wedding Planner

People have lots of questions when it comes to wedding planning. Do you need a wedding planner? A coordinator? What's the difference? Why can't I just do it all myself? As a wedding photographer, I get a lot of these questions, so today I interviewed Lauren of Every Little Thing Events to have an expert answer all my questions!!

Here’s some free advice and tips from Lauren!

I’M PLANNING MY OWN WEDDING, DO I NEED A WEDDING COORDINATOR?

This was me as a bride, so I can 100% relate to the bride that is planning her own wedding. Even if you are planning your own wedding, I highly recommend at least hiring a month of wedding coordinator. You have worked so hard to plan your special day, but you want to be able to enjoy every moment on your wedding day. Hiring a month of (sometimes called a day of coordinator) will ensure that you can enjoy the day while also having reassurance that everything is taken care of.

HOW MANY TIMES WILL WE MEET BEFORE MY WEDDING?

This varies based on what you need and which package option you are interested in. If we are working together with just month of coordination, we usually meet about twice during the months leading up to your wedding day, once about 30 days beforehand for your final walkthrough, and the rehearsal the day before your wedding. We will meet more frequently if we are working together during the planning process as well.

WHAT ALL DO YOU HANDLE ON THE DAY OF MY WEDDING?

It is a big day with lots of moving parts and people! I am the first person there on your wedding day, with the exception of probably your venue manager. I check in with the couple and bridal parties to make sure that getting ready is going well and running on time. At the venue, I’ll manage all deliveries, arrivals of other vendors, and set up for both the ceremony and reception. Once guests start arriving, I can help with guest traffic and flow so everyone knows where to go and I am the point person if there are any questions that day. I’ll coordinate your ceremony and make sure you get down the aisle on time with only one hitch. I will coordinate all other formalities throughout the rest of the night and am typically the last one to leave at the end of the night, ensuring that all gifts and decor have been cleaned up and make it back to your hotel room or with a family member. My goal is truly to handle every little thing on your wedding day.

DO YOU COORDINATE THE REHEARSAL?

Yes! The purpose of a wedding rehearsal is to make sure that everyone is comfortable and knows what is going on for the wedding day. We can rehearse with your bridal party, family members and officiant so that you feel prepared and less nervous about the big day. I’ll coordinate the rehearsal working closely with your officiant. On the day of your wedding, I make it super simple and stress free for you so you don’t have to think about when you’re walking down the aisle. I will coordinate the whole thing!

I ONLY NEED SOMEONE ON THE DAY OF MY WEDDING. DO YOU OFFER DAY OF WEDDING COORDINATION?

From my experience with couples in the past, I need to step in sooner than just the day of your wedding to ensure that I can seamlessly coordinate your day. For this reason, I offer a month of coordination package rather than a day of coordination package. The month leading up to your wedding is busy! Your vendors start to have questions, you’re finalizing counts for your caterers and putting the finishing touches on planning. Stepping in a month before your wedding really allows me to have that communication with your vendors, make sure that everything is confirmed and that way we are all on the same page for your wedding day. This pre planning piece is so important to making sure that I know exactly what you want on your wedding day and can execute everything the way you envisioned it. Another plus is that we will have been in communication for months at this point and have formed a relationship so I’m not just a stranger showing up on your wedding day! You can trust that I have everything handled.
