A Soft Sage Summer Wedding: Gretchen and Max
Gretchen and Max’s summer wedding was filled with soft greens, delicate details, and the kind of understated beauty that made the entire day feel effortlessly romantic. From the beginning, their design felt cohesive without feeling overly styled—sage tones, white florals, pearls, and subtle botanical details carried throughout the day. Gretchen’s sleek gown and lace-trimmed veil were the perfect complement, giving her bridal look a modern simplicity against the ornate architecture surrounding them.
Their ceremony took place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Indianapolis, where the soaring ceilings, intricate artwork, and historic architecture created an incredible setting for the ceremony. One of my favorite things about photographing weddings in spaces like this is being able to pull back and show the scale of the architecture while still keeping the emotion of the moment at the center. Gretchen walking down the aisle with her dad was especially beautiful framed by the church and all of their family and friends.
After the ceremony, the celebration continued at The Club at Chatham Hills. The reception carried the soft green palette into every detail, with sage linens and ribbons, white florals, greenery, candlelight, and botanical patterns creating a fresh summer atmosphere. I especially loved the layered place settings and subtle texture throughout the tablescape. Even their all-white vintage-inspired wedding cake felt perfectly at home with the rest of the design.
But beyond all of the beautiful details, Gretchen and Max were simply so much fun to photograph together. Their portraits felt relaxed and natural, with so many little in-between moments that captured their connection without needing to manufacture it. That balance is always what I’m looking for on a wedding day—beautifully composed photographs alongside the movement, laughter, and genuine interactions that make the gallery feel like their wedding rather than just a beautiful wedding.
Gretchen and Max’s day was such a lovely example of how thoughtful details, meaningful traditions, and a relaxed celebration can come together beautifully. As an Indianapolis wedding photographer, I love creating imagery that feels refined while still leaving room for the day to unfold naturally.
